The Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME) was established April 2, 1976 as the Society of Medical College Directors of Continuing Medical Education (SMCDCME). Institutional Papers of Society of Academic Continuing Medical Education, Institution Collection No. 81, John P. McGovern Historical Collections and Research Center, Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library.
The material was donated by several officers of the Society from their personal files. The material was received by the McGovern Historical Center in 2007.
The material was received in various arrangments depending on the donors particular filing system. Identification of which donor donated which material was often unclear. Material dealing with meetings was integrated with duplicates and drafts often removed. Paper clips and rubber bands were removed; fax and color copies were photocopied on archival paper. Material was refolded in acid-free, buffered folders. Because of the various filing systems and because of the unequal amount of material for specific years and events, it was decided to arrange the bulk of the material in chronological order.
