"The first scientific program to be initiated at the ABCC was that designed by Jim Neel and implemented by him and Jack Schull. Jim Neel was convinced that most important long-range study should be in the realm of medical genetics. His program received the cooperation of the local Japanese National Midwives Association, which made a major contribution to his program. W.W. Sutow's program in pediatrics was implemented next, but the adult medical research program was slow to get started. Patient-physician relationships were difficlut and awkard to initiate until Scott Matsumoto trained a group of Japanese girls to assist during the examination."
